Alumnae in Science: Graduates from 50's and 60's

Mildred Landon ‘50 earned a PhD in Chemistry from Rutgers University. She was a research chemist at the leading industrial research corporations of the era.

Audrey Barnett ‘55 earned a PhD in Genetics from the University of Indiana, followed by a Post Doc at Princeton University. She spent most of her career as a professor at University of Maryland, but prior to that, she was a visiting scientist at the Argonne National Laboratory.

Patricia Mooney ‘67 earned a PhD in physics from Bryn Mawr College after graduating from Wilson. She spent several years teaching physics at Hiram College and Vassar College before taking a visiting summer faculty position at IBM’s TJ Watson Research Center. Three years later she moved to IBM as a researcher in their semiconductor group, looking for materials that would increase computing speeds beyond what silicon could do. Mooney received two Outstanding Technical Achievement Awards while at IBM. “I think what made me decide to go on to graduate school was doing research as an undergraduate for Paul Ganley, a physics professor who came to Wilson from Bryn Mawr. I did a senior project with him and realized that I liked working in a lab, building and measuring things.” Bryn Mawr Magazine, 2002.
