Ellen Jacobi Selden ‘43 lived and painted most of her life in Nantucket. She studied at L’Ecole des Beaux Arts in France and directed her own art school for over 25 years in New York where she also showed her work in many galleries. Her bronze sculptures were known for her ability to integrate grace and energy.
Thora McCready Golz ‘44 majored in classics at Wilson and received the President’s Prize. She earned a master’s degree in dance from New York University and studied at Radcliffe on a Ford Foundation fellowship. She worked with Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Charles Wedman and Doris Humphrey. She wrote the libretto to Margaret Lorince’s score for an original children’s musical “Hans and the Golden Flute,” based on Tom Hamil’s book. She often worked with her husband, Joseph Golz as choreographer for the operatic works that he produced.
