Women in private life
The study of material culture and art - vase paintings, wall paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and household objects - contributes to our understanding of women in antiquity, complementing historical sources written by men. In their private life, women used glass and terracotta jars for cosmetics and perfumes. In most ancient cultures precious oils, cosmetic powders, and hair dyes seem to have been used by those who could afford them. They were shipped in various containers, such as flasks. Precious fine glass, doubles flasks and colorful glass bottles, provided useful and beautiful containers for cosmetics, perfumes, and medicine.
