Alice Sommerville '30
Alice Sommerville ‘30 earned a degree in library science at Drexel and worked as a cataloguer before becoming a librarian for the US Navy during WWII. After the war, she returned to Clearfield County, PA where her grandfather had operated a coal mine in the 1880s. She operated the county bookmobile, a one-ton panel truck which she drove in all weather throughout a 40 square mile radius of steep backroads. She served an underprivileged population of children for whom a book was a luxury.
