Emma Dickson Sheehy '17

From her textbook, "Five and Sixes Go to School" written in 1954-below left, boys buld a pretend coal mine while girls apply makeup and play with dolls. Although a sign of the times, it stresses creativity and active play.

Emma Dickson Sheehy ’17 earned an MA in Child Development at Columbia University. She wrote many books for children as well as textbooks for teacher preparation. She was also a consultant to organizations which prepared toys and instructional materials to aid in guiding a child’s growth and development.
